What's on it

Twelve metric coarse sizes from M2.5 to M24 and twelve unified inch sizes from #4-40 to 5/8-11, each with tap drill, normal-fit clearance hole, torque figure, hex head size and hex key size. Below that, NPT pipe threads from 1/16″ to 3″ with tap drills and true major diameters.

Alongside the tables are the six things that are easy to get wrong: the metric tap drill rule, what percentage of thread actually buys you, why lubricated threads need less torque than the chart says, why a clearance hole doesn't locate anything, how to tell NPT from BSP, and the fact that a 1/2″ pipe thread measures 0.840″.

Every number on the chart is generated from the same data as the rest of this site, so it cannot drift out of step with the pages. When a value is corrected here, the next chart carries the correction.

Printing it

Landscape, one page, and it is designed to survive a mono laser printer and a shop wall. Print at 100% rather than "fit to page" if you want the type at its intended size. Letter and A4 are laid out separately rather than scaled, so neither has odd margins.

Using it elsewhere

Print it, pin it, hand it round the shop, put it in a course pack or an apprentice handbook. No permission needed and no attribution required, though a link back is appreciated if you publish it somewhere. What we'd ask is that you don't rehost the PDF itself — link to this page instead, so people get the corrected version rather than a stale copy.

Something missing?

The chart covers the common sizes because it has to fit on one page. Everything else — metric fine, the full UNC and UNF range, BSPT, all four thread engagement percentages, every grade of torque figure — is on the site. If there's a size you reach for constantly and it isn't on the chart, tell us and it goes in the next revision.
